Here comes the Bride!

I know this is my third post of the day, but we had a busy day. I washed some old rags today, and as I was folding them, Kalle wanted to make a wedding dress out of them- so we did it! The first picture is my absolute favorite because her face looks EXACTLY like some of my picture at that age. So take that all you 90% of people who says she looks more like Brandt! (Maybe when I am not so tired, I will scan some pictures of me at that age for comparison- either way she is a cutie!)

How Kalle would love to spend her entire day...

...watching George and snuggling Goobie. Good thing George is only a half hour show!

Fun in the sun!

Today we had a super fun day at the Phoenix Zoo! One of my best friends from when I was little, JoEllen (Gifford) Woods, invited us to go (they have a zoo pass), and we had a blast. Kalle loved to see all the animals (her favorite phrase of the day was "let's go see more animals!"), and Oakley loved the snacks and chasing the birds. We sure had a good time, and Kalle told her daddy tonight, when he asked what her favorite part of the zoo was, that she liked the snakes best. I think that might have been because she could get so close to them (of course they were behind glass). My favorite part of the day? Getting to hang out with my old friend JoEllen and meeting her two cute kids, Ethan and Gavin! I am a little worn out now though- that place has a lot of hills!

FHE fun for Kalle

Besides the kitten, Kalle has been spending her time playing with the "family dolls" (as she calls them). They are just paper dolls we made and colored, then lainated. She helped me make them for our valentines FHE and now loves to play with them. I had to post them because she is just so adorable with them and seeing them makes me smile! I will try and take a pic of her playing with them soon.
(Her favorite is the new baby... I should write some of the funny things she says to it!)

What a day, what a day!

Today was a fun filled, great day. It started out slow and as usual. Kalle has been begging me to let her wear her new sandals, and it was warm today, so we all showed our toes to the world. Kalle insisted I take a picture.

Then Kalle was invited to girls lunch party with her friend Samara from nursery. I didn't get any pictures because it wasnt at our house. Then the kids took a nap while I got some stuff done. This is where it got fun. One of my best friends from highschool, Becca (Judy) Nelson, called, and we met her at the park. It was so much fun! She is pregnant, too- of course she looks AMAZING!
Lastly, we met Brandt at Grandma's house where he made Kalle's day, week, month, year... maybe whole life. He was waiting there for us with an early birthday present for her (she has been asking for one of these for 5 or 6 months now... a KITTEN! Although I set it all up and picked it up, we decided it would be from Daddy since he does not get to be around all that often, and it could be something special from him. She is in absolute heaven! Something she said on the way home that just cracked me up was, "Isn't Daddy just so sweet!"
The cat is light grey/white, with blue eyes. Kalle named him "Goobie." When I asked her why, she said, "Because Daddy calls me that sometimes." Goobie is only 6 weeks old, about the size of a dollar bill, and really likes attention- perfect for a two year old who wants nothing more than to smother it with love.
Oakley on the other hand really will smother it if we are not careful. He gets so excited when he sees it. He runs to it and tries to grab it to give it a big hug. We will have to work on being gentle. What a day!

Wow- I feel Special!

I have the most wonderful sister EVER! She did an ode to me on her blog for my birthday. It made me feel so great that I decided to post it here on my own blog:

I meant to do this for my sister Amber's birthday, but I am about two weeks late...oh well, all the great things I have to say about her are STILL true, even if they weren't posted on her birthday! Since she just turned 24, here are 24 great things about Amber-

1.She is a DOER!!! She does not procrastinate on anything, and I am amazed at the speed with which she gets things done. This is one of my favorite qualities about Amber, she is amazing!
2. She is gospel-centered on the inside, not just for show
3. She is ALWAYS ALWAYS honest…even in the tiniest little things, it’s a hard thing to do…
4. She is a great mom and rarely loses her temper, even with two little ones, and one on the way
5. She never shirks a duty, or a favor- she’s always there to help
6. Even though she is crazy-busy and 7 months pregnant, she is always volunteering to help others, she just looks to others needs before her own.
7. Being the baby of the family, she gets a lot of grief, and takes it is stride!
8. She makes every haircut look good…then I break down and follow her…then I’m sorry because it never looks so good on me!
9. She sees the good in people, even when it seems there is very little good to find!
10. She will claim otherwise, but she has a really cute style
11. She got all the “good” girl genes in the family…Tall, thin, un-blochy skin, nice hands, etc…
12. She let me boss her around…A LOT
13. She is still remembered for her girls camp antics, songs, and bubbly personality
14. She had boys falling all over her in highschool, and still ALL the girls liked her too!
15. She was a state Champion triple Jumper even though she rarely did the track work out, she is just very naturally athletic.
16. She always has fun ideas for things to do with the kids and each other. She never uses the excuse “I’m too tired” or “not today”(again putting others before herself)
17. She is an excellent cook, and tries new and DIFFICULT recipes all the time.
18. She knows how to give someone two black eyes at once…I know…she did it to me!
19. She forgave me for singing her praises for about 10 minutes to the cutest and most eligible “bachelors” in the singles ward, all while I sat on the lap of her future husband (Come on…I didn’t know at the time it WOULD BE her future husband…)
20. She got back at me by asking my fiancé (yes, Dave) to play with her hair every time he came over during our engagement.
21. She has a fantastic memory, especially when it comes to other people’s birthdays, anniversaries, and other special days.
22. SHE IS A GENIUS!!! She’s never met a math problem she didn’t like (or at least couldn’t conquer)
23. Despite being a genius, she is wholly unaffected by the fact that she can’t spell worth a lick! 24. She is the best sister ever. She knows just when to give words of encouragement, and when to encourage you to be better. She never lets me settle for less than my best, but always makes me feel like my best is good enough. I LOVE HER TO DEATH, and can’t imagine life without her!!!LOVE YOU SIS!!!

Thanks Ashley! (My absolute favorite is #23- I couldn't stop laughing because it is so true that my spelling skills leave more than a little to be desired!)

She melts my heart!

Tonight when I was tucking Kalle in to bed, she almost made me cry. Every day we talk about how Daddy goes to school. We talk about how when she is a REALLY big girl she will leave mommy and daddy and go to college, too (of course I am plugging for BYU!). Here was our conversation tonight:

Kalle: Mom, will Oakley go to BYU, too?
Me: Yes, he probably will.
Kalle: Good, because I might need someone to snuggle when I get scared on the school bus.

Being a mom has got to be the most rewarding thing ever!

Tag, Tag, Tag... alright already!

"Your friends are gonna say, 'Dang'!"

That's what I said to Brandt after I gave him an AWESOME haircut yesterday (if I do say so myself). You might be saying, "Why on earth is she blogging about a hair cut?" Well, the answer is because it was the best one I've ever given! Brandt was WAY (about 3 weeks) overdue for a haircut because our clippers were broken and I was nervous about buying a whole new set (but they were on sale at walmart last week for $19.99!). Then Brandt reminded me that going to get a hair cut at the barber, after the tip, was almost that much anyway- one haircut would pretty much pay for the clippers. So we got it and.... wahlah!
As you can see by the mop on the floor... Brandt was beyond needing one! Doesn't his hair look dark when it's not on his head!

This is his hair before. I am sad because you can't really see how bad it is in the picture...

After the haircut... "Brandt, your friends are gonna say, 'Dang'!"

Happy Birthday to Me!

Yep- I am pretty much an old lady now- the big 2-4! The fun started the day before my birthday with a great dinner at Brandt's families house. We had yummy ribs, corn on the cob, fresh fruit, salad, and rolls- honestly it was delicious (I think I am focusing so much on food because I have to fast today before my blood glucose test and I am starving! Fasting while pregnant should NEVER have to go together!) Anyway, on my real birthday (sunday), I got a call from every single one of my brothers and sisters and spent a wonderful day here at home (and church) with my very favorite people (Brandt and the kids). My Mom and Dad came over that night for awhile, too. Then lastly, yesterday, my parents took us out to dinner and let me pick where to go. I had such a hard time deciding... rare for me. I finally chose Texas Roadhouse, and it was a lot of fun. I love birthdays. Thanks to everyone who helped mine to be great!

Some things can really ruin your day!

Today we had a very tramatic experience in the Palmer home. I was just cleaning up a few things in the kitchen, watching Kalle and Oakley playing the the family room. Oakley likes to open the top drawer to the entertainment center and pull out all of the diapers. Well, as I am watching him open the top drawer, I see the bottom drawer pull out with it. Then as Oakley puts his weight on the drawers to pull out the diapers, I see a disaster in the works. The whole right side of the entertainment center (so heavy I can't even budge it by myself) start to fall on Oakley. I have no idea (I think I might have had a little help from above) how I got all the way from the kitchen, down the three stairs in time, but somehow I cought the entertainment center one handed before it crushed him. I thought he would still be hurt considering it did knock him over, and I only cought it before it really hit the ground, but Oakley only cried for a second because it scared him. You always hear the stories of the old women picking uup cars when they have adrenalin- I think that was me catching it one handed. Now I think my right arm is going to fall off- it is so sore. Also, I have cuts all over the top of my hand. But Oakley is OK. Here is a picture of the disaster. A few things broke and there was glass everywhere...

Before: This picture was taken a few weeks ago, and there was actually a few more things on it since then.

After: As you can see, I got the entertainment center back up somehow by the time this was taken. And you can't really see all the glass...

Needless to say, I hope I never have an experience like this again!

Dad Ferrell Retires- Way to go Dad!

Not that my Dad will ever read this because he doesn't read blogs, but I wanted to congratulate him anyway. Today is his LAST day of working for State Farm Insurance. He has worked for them for 38 years, and I am so proud of him. He really is the hardest working person I know- well Brandt probably ties him. Anyway, the whole family came into town for a retirement party last weekend. We started with a kid's party at Jeepers! Amusement Center where we rode rides, played token games, and had surprisingly good pizza and (not so good) salad. Then that night we had an all adult dinner at a super nice (probably nicer than anywhere I will ever go again) restaruant in Scottsdale called Lons. It was so much fun telling stories and honoring Mom and Dad. Here are some pictures from the kid's party- I will post some from the adult party when I get them:

Brandt had to go on all the rides with the kids because my pregnant stomach wasn't going to handle it. He was a good sport considering his long legs didn't really fit in the rides... oh well.

Our first time meeting baby Katie. Of course we all fell in love with her right away... Kalle just can't get enough of her. Suprisingly, Oakley can't either. He loves to give her hugs and kisses and pat her head (and face).
